Powers Township is a township in Cass County, Minnesota. The population was 918 at the 2000 Census. Powers Township was named after Gorham Powers, a Minnesota politician who owned land there. According to the United States Census, the township has a total area of 35.3 square miles, of which 28.7 square miles is land and 6.7 square miles (18.83%) is water. It is the home to 27 lakes,

The miles of wooded shoreline along the many lakes within the township draw seasonable residents back to their lake homes and vacation cottages- and draw tourists to visit resorts, campgrounds, recreational trails and area attraction to relax in the beauty and serenity of the north woods.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement to the township residents. The township is a member of the Backus Area Fire and Rescue Department for fire and emergency services for township residents. The City of Backus is located entirely within Powers Township geographically but is a separate entity.
